Two things of note recently....and I am telling a long one here so bear with me.

Josh, Jensen and I attended a come and go baby shower at our church last Friday night. Afterwards, we went out for pizza with a friend of ours and her 3 year old daughter. Dana went to order pizza and Jensen and Hope were sitting at the table. Josh, in a moment of bravery and gumption, went up to an "army man" in BDUs (camo for those non military brats out there) and just started asking him questions. This is SO unlike Joshua. We don't encourage him talking to strangers at all, but we do allow him to show interest in others and ask them questions if we are with him. Usually, he'll say, "Mom, you ask him." and I'll say, "No, if you have a question, you can get the answer." But, he just was so very outside what I thought he would do here. Dana was watching and trying to listen, she kept smiling back at me to see if I was watching. After a few minutes, Josh came to the table and sat down. Before I could talk to him about the man, he said, "Oh man, I forgot to ask him what kind of weapons he has. I want to ask him, but I don't want to disturb him." I really didn't get I chance to say anything before he got back up and walked over there. The next thing I know, he's asking me if he can sit with the army man if it's OK with him. Taken aback, I said sure and he sat over at the next table with this guy for over an hour. He had a computer and Josh got him to download Google Earth and they spent a lot of time "traveling" across the world together. I wish I could have heard everything they said, Josh kept up a steady, but not incessant stream of converstion. It so very sweet.

The best news is that Josh has an appointment to speak with our pastor regarding his next step in his walk with Christ. He doesn't put it this way though. He said to me, "Mom I want to be baptized and live a good life in Heaven with Jesus." If he's not quite ready to make this decision now, he soon will be.

Isn't parenting wonderful, expecially when all is well.

OK, this is a story I had to share. One of Josh's favorite songs is "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne. For the record, I object to Ozzy on principal, but the song is a good rock out song. Josh has this song on itunes, which is the recorded version but we had a chance to see him perform it live on VH1 tonight. He told me that "I didn't like when he sang it on TV, because it had different words" "Yeah, which words were different?" I asked him. "Well, he left out the broccoli part." "The what?" "You know, when he says 'I know that things are going broccoli' " I said, "Oh." and barely made it out of the room before I started laughing so hard that I couldn't speak when I tried to tell Shawn why I was laughing. One of the moments that I will treasure forever.

Joshua is playing soccer this spring and he loves it! He's had 3 games so far, and 3 have been cancelled due to weather. His team has lost all 3 and with the exception of the last one (which was thankfully rained out before the half) they played really well. It's just so funny to watch inexperienced boys play soccer. They kick the ball then stop and wait to see where it goes. Of course, by that time the other team has gotten possession and we're back to square one. But, the name of the game is supposed to be fun and he's having a lot of that!

He is still excelling at spelling! He has only missed 2 words all year and 1 of those was because of poor penmanship (grrrr!). He just seems to get spelling and I'm very grateful. And finally, he's becoming more able to transfer what he's learned there to his reading. That was a long journey. We are hoping that 3rd grade will be a little better in that regard.

I can't believe I can finally use this new version! It's taken forever!

Quick update...

Josh is still doing pretty well in 2nd grade. His spelling is outstanding and his reading and math are coming along nicely in my opinion. He started soccer last week and LOVES it. his first game is this Saturday, so that should be interesting. Hopefully, I'll be able to post more on that after the fact.

He's still into Bionicles and I don't see that changing any time soon. He's got some good friends at church and at school and he says he has 7 girlfriends! We're definitely not rushing him on that, but since there are only 3 boys in his class this year, it could be that he has lots of friends that are girls. Hope so.
